  14. Children are attracted by computers as if by magic. Being strange and 
  15. suspicious to many adults, to children this modern aid is as natural as 
  16. the telephone and the TV. Just the fact that mum and dad use it excites 
  17. the curiosity of the child.

  20. Often the computer unjustly is condemned as being a cause for isolation,
  21. a lack of creativity, an increasing propensity for violence, etc. This 
  22. is not necessarily so. If the computer is used the right way, i. e. with 
  23. the appropriate software and under control of the parents, it can help 
  24. to encourage creativity and communicational skills.

  26. ABC-WARE is software for children *). Under this name programs are 
  27. developed which do not contain violence and have no racist and other 
  28. contents which are liable to corrupt the young. Here you will not find 
  29. any shoot-'em-up games.

  31. ABC-WARE stimulates the creativity and the intellectual and logical 
  32. capacities, supports the imagination of your child and in an enjoyable 
  33. and playful way practises simple tasks as reading, 
  34. arithmetic, etc., either by itself or together with children of the 
  35. same age or with the whole family.

  37. Make sure that your child spends its time at the computer in a useful 
  38. way. Pay attention to ABC-WARE when buying software. This ensures that 
  39. you always choose the right software.

  57. Start the installation by typing

  59.             abcsetup

  61. The installation program will ask you in which directory Snowman shall 
  62. be installed. You can either accept the default directory or enter a 
  63. directory of your choice. If the directory does not exist already, it 
  64. will be created by the installation program.

  67. After the installation your target directory has to contain the following 
  68. files:

  75.         *.dat           sample files containing the vocabulary for the 
  76.                         licensed version

  80.         vbrun300.dll    Visual Basic runtime module

  82. Attention: This file may also be used by other programs! If you 
  83. want to deinstall Snowman for any reason, make sure that no other 
  84. programs use this runtime module, before you delete it!

  86. A program group will be created and the icons for Snowman will be added 
  87. automatically.

  89. Note: To enjoy the sound effects you need either a sound card or a driver 
  90. for your PC speaker (speaker.drv, available from your shareware retailer 
  91. or by CompuServe).
